Barco assures one million travelers a safe journey on the São Paulo Metro

Kortrijk, Belgium, 28 July 2010. Barco, a world leader in visualization solutions, is proud to announce that it has installed a 24 sqm video wall at the new São Paulo Metro control center in Brazil. The brand new control center opened its doors in May 2010 and is responsible for all security and monitoring of Line 4, also known as the yellow line.

São Paulo's most recent metro line, Line 4, uses unprecedented subway system technologies and is thus the most innovating metro line in Latin America. It incorporates driverless technology, glass partitions separating the platform from the tracks and a control center with the highest technology overview wall. Its first two stations opened in May 2010 and when finalized in 2010, Line 4 will be about 13 km long, have 11 stations and will transport almost one million people every day.

Line 4 comes with its own operation control center, equipped with a Barco OV-708 overview wall in a 9 by 2 curved setup. The overview wall allows operators to visualize all security and monitoring footage from the platforms, stations and trains in real-time. Its brightness, image contrast, and wide viewing angle are fully adapted at the human eye providing maximum readability of the monitored information.

Siemens was responsible for the project and implementation of the operational control room. Eduardo Yamaoka from Siemens comments: “We chose a Barco overview wall because their visualization technology can be totally integrated into our applications. The overview wall visualizes all operations 24/7 and gives operators the opportunity to access and manipulate data in a large viewing area, hereby ensuring maximum safety for users of the subway.”

Barco's OV-D2 series integrate cutting edge DLP™ technology into 70" video wall systems that are designed and optimized for use in a 24/7 mission critical environment. The Barco designed projection engine provides a set of unique features, resulting in outstanding picture quality, reliability and ease of use.
